Marie Louise Reviews continued...

Greetings dearest folk!

I just wanted to share how much I love Maire Louise's Cleansing Clear Gel!! Not only is it extremely gentle to the skin, but it also preserves my skin's moisture while removing most traces of dirt. Yes I used it several times around my eyes and amazingly, my eyes didn't sting or hurt as with other cleansers. I also love how the cleanser is this beautiful clear sea-green gel that looks like liquid glass! Lovely!

Study hard for finals!! Good luck!

"Secret Scholar" in Real SAT Korea

Hello, everyone!

I brought a good news for Secret Scholars. =]

I've been writing for a Korean online magazine 'Real SAT Korea'
as a columnist from 2006. It is a magazine for people in Korea
who wants to study in the U.S.

For this month's column, I wrote a page about Secret Scholar!
I attached an original page of the magazine, but I have no clue
why the picture does not appear in its original size.

Basically, I wrote how Secret Scholar started, SS has staff
recruitment every Fall, SS just launched Spring 2009 issue,
and SS's website address. Enjoy.

Marie Louise Reviews

Hello hello!

How was your day? Mine was excellent but tiring haha...

These past days, I got to try a few of the Marie Louise cosmetic product samples. Overall, I was quite impressed.

Moistraiser α-VC (Moisturizing Toner): leaves my dry skin feeling fully hydrated. It does have a slightly sticky finish, but the stickiness isn't uncomfortable in the least. Rather, the toner felt nourishing and gave my skin a dewy look.

Crème α-VC (Facial Moisturizer): thick and creamy yet slightly translucent. I loved using this product because I have dry skin. The texture is wonderfully silky and cool... rather pleasing and gentle to the skin. I actually preferred using the cream at night rather than in the day because it was a bit on the heavy side.

I have yet to try the Restoration Clear Gel, Cleansing Clear Gel, and Vital Nanoemulsion. Stay tuned for further reviews!!

TRASHION COVERAGE

Hello Secret Scholars,

First things first, OUR BLOG IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION! One of our staff writers, Christina Pham, is currently designing a Secret Scholar Blog Banner to spice things up! We plan on putting that up sometime this weekend.

As you all should know, Project Trashion, hosted by UCSD's VEG and Ashley Ferrer, was this past Friday at The Loft.

A couple of S.S. staff members and I got to attend, and cover this fabulous event!
I was extremely excited because I've been looking forward to this event ever since the fliers were first distributed around campus.

Project Trashion ended up being nothing short of marvelous.
Marvelous, as in- a FULL house, good food, tasteful music, and cutting-edge designers/eco-friendly designs! I was even able to sneak backstage and play paparazzi with the designers and models. Yay! =)

& A huge congratulations to Kevin Nguyen from Sixth College on placing first!
We might be featuring him in our Spring Quarter Issue. Fingers crossed!

You can steal our Project Trashion pictures @ S.S. Trashion Coverage. Brought to you by yours truly!

Other than that, it's crunch time for the S.S. Staff!
We're all currently trying to juggle midterms while working on our Spring Quarter Issue and planning our Spring Quarter Launch Party! Not to mention, we're taking our staff photo tonight... phew! We're also picking our staff favorites which will be featured in our Spring Quarter Issue. ;)

Also, please NOMINATE UCSD for the VS Pink Collegiate Collection @ vspink!
We were ranked #84 a week ago, but I checked today & we're currently #64! Lets keep it up SD! :)

I also have a little surprise/spoiler regarding our Spring Quarter Issue... which I will reveal some time next week! So make sure you stay tuned- I promise, it's a real treat!

MORE EVENTS

Greetings Secret Scholars,

Figured it was time for another blog.

I just recently attended the World of Dance Tour 2009 at Pomona Fairplex.
Went for the first time last year and LOVED it, so decided to go again. =)
The dancing was AMAZING, it always is... even the youth division was unbelievably talented!
Apart from watching the actual dancing, I was also on the look out for cute urban wear (dance troupes come up with the hippest, freshest outfits).
I had my favorites, but my personal favorite (costume wise) was Fr3sh Crew from New Jersey!
[I apologize for the poor quality, it was taken on my blackberry... & it definitely looked a lot better in real life.]

There were also guest performances by Quest Crew and Beatfreakz from MTV's America's Best Dance Crew.

Meet Rumi

Hey everyone!

yay it's my first time blogging here! I just wanted you guys to check out Rumi's fabulous fashion blog:

fashiontoast.com

Rumi is based locally here in SD. Her style expresses a laid back yet rock/punk/grungy sophistication. Her outfits are simple and cool... it looks like she just throws on something and whatever she wears looks effortlessly chic. So please check out her outfits and her ebay store:

http://stores.ebay.com/Treasure-Chest-Vintage_W0QQsspagenameZMEQ3aFQ3aSTQQtZkm

I thinking of interviewing her for our next issue! What questions would you like me to ask her (this is assuming, of course, that I get permission to)?

have a sparkly day!

Hey all,

Anyone ready for Spring Quarter? I'm not! Spring Break was way too quick for me.

I hope everyone had a good Spring Break. I did a bit of shopping in the meantime. I've been using this great tote every day for classes, it's the perfect size for my notebooks and stuff for school. Unfortunately, it's been worn down by everyday wear and tear, so I'm on the lookout for a suitable replacement.

I came across the Harajuku Lovers Trompe L'Oiel Honey Tote in my search, and it's my dream replacement. I've never been a big fan of Gwen Stefani's Harajuku Lovers line, it was just an exercise in excess for me. But, it looks like she's toned down the crazy, and this bag looks pretty nice. It'll look good in my closet next to my L.A.M.B. purses, haha.

Although I myself may not be ready for what's coming tomorrow (or, since it's actually 12:01AM as of this sentence... TODAY), Lois and I have been busy planning out some of the events that will be happening this quarter. Be on the lookout for us at Admit Day this weekend. If you went to our Street Dogs and Sprinkles Cupcakes fundraiser last quarter, we're doing it again, as well as a fundraiser with Jamba Juice. I believe a fundraiser with TapEx is in the works, too! Those events will pop up on Facebook shortly. If you can, drop by, eat / drink something yummy, and help us out!

I was in the middle of a phone call with Lois, actually, when my phone died. I'm one of the unlucky ones right now with no phone service because of AT&T. Boo!

Good luck on Day 1 of Spring Quarter!

Launch Party

Thanks to all of you who stopped by! We loved partnering with The Loft for the Launch Party. Be on the look out for a bigger and even better Launch Party for the Spring Issue during spring quarter!

If you didn't manage to drop by the party and pick up an issue, we have distributed the issues across campus. You can find them at the newsstands in front of Price Center, Center Hall, Pepper Canyon, Warren Lecture Hall, York Hall, and Peterson. We only printed a limited number of copies, so do get one before they're all gone!

Runway Promotional Video

Hey guys!

I just got back from shooting the Secret Scholar promotional "Runway and Behind-the-Scenes" video. I had such a blast! It was a little nerve wracking at first, since we had to strut our stuff in front of so many people. I had no idea that so many people are involved in making one little runway video, but the camera and crew people were amazing and so supportive! I definitely had so much fun, since spirits were high and The Ting Tings' song "Great DJ" was blasting, which really got me excited and pumped. I am sure the video will turn out great, since there were three cameras shooting, and the runway looked REAL, with excellent lighting fading in and out. Jasmine was such a great director for the video and it was funny hearing people yelling at me to pose on mark and keep up the energy! It will definitely be an excellent addition to our already amazing publicity. Can't wait to see the final product!

Planning the event for TONIGHT is so exhausting, but really fun at the same time. I will be meeting with DJ Ellis at 7pm to set up equipment. Apparently, he is a really amazing DJ, who usually gets PAID to do these things, so it's pretty amazing that he is doing this for us for FREE! Anyway, I'm sure the event will turn out great and I am so excited to hear the music and get everyone dancing!

DJ Change

My friend Marcus has just informed me that he is unfortunately unable to DJ for our event, but he has a replacement DJ for us. His name is Ellis, and I am sure he will be good, since I think all his friends are DJ's and they have a lot of experience spinning. Thankfully, this wasn't too much of a disaster in replacing him :D

DJ "Mawkus" for Launch Party

Hey guys!

So I have confirmed that DJ "Mawkus" will be spinning for our Launch Party event coming up next Thursday at the Loft. I have heard his stuff before at a previous event with KSDT Radio, and he is really good! He doesn't really play much mainstream music, but he still plays very fun music, with cool beats and a great sound, so the event should be able to get everyone dancing! There is a possibility that another DJ will spin for the event also, but that is still pending.

I am really excited with how this event is coming along, and the decorations planned so far sound gorgeous, but I guess you guys will just have to wait to see how it will all turn out :D

That is all!

Welcome to the Blog!

Hello everyone!

For those of you who just happened to stumble across this blog, this is the Secret Scholar Staff Blog. There will be posts from the writers, PR, event coordinators, and editors, just to name a few, to give you a deeper look into the process of how an issue comes together.

I should probably backtrack and explain what, exactly, "Secret Scholar" is. Secret Scholar is University of California, San Diego's student fashion magazine, founded in 2007. We focus on articles that would interest the student population, with articles in our Winter 2009 issue ranging from cheap shopping hotspots in San Diego to great study tips. However, you might probably have known all of that already...

Currently, our Winter issue is being published. I'm very excited about how it turned out, and I can't wait to see the physical product when it's done. We are having a launch party where we will be releasing the issue next week, Thursday, March 12th at The Loft! Definitely swing by to pick up an issue and to hang out, we'll be having a DJ and a dance party at the same time.

As of right now, I guess that's all the news I've got. I'm a pretty regular blogger on my own personal account, so don't be surprised if there's a lot of posts here.

See you later,

Monique
